Getting here

How to reach Heissa Island.

Cairo, Luxor, or wherever — we'll get you across the Nile.

Heissa is a small island in the Nile, on the West Bank side of Aswan. There's no road to it — only the river. Here's how to plan the journey, from wherever you're flying in to the moment our motorboat picks you up at the corniche.

Step by step

From the airport to your room.

1
Day of arrival

Land at Aswan Airport (ASW)

Whether you flew in from Cairo, Luxor, or anywhere else, exit through the small arrivals hall. Our driver will be waiting with a sign that says Heissa Artie — usually in the parking area just outside the terminal exit. If you can't find them, WhatsApp us at +20 112 933 1600.

2
~30 minutes

Drive to Aswan corniche

The drive from the airport to the corniche dock takes about 25–30 minutes, depending on traffic. The route passes the High Dam reservoir on your left — your first glimpse of how big Lake Nasser actually is. The driver will point things out if you ask.

3
~10 minutes

Cross the Nile by motorboat

At the corniche, you'll meet our boat captain at the dock. The motorboat is small, covered, and very stable — luggage included with no problem. The crossing to Heissa takes about 10 minutes, with views of Elephantine Island and the West Bank dunes. Most guests say this is the moment Egypt finally slows down for them.

4
~2 minutes

Walk to Heissa Artie

Our private dock is at the south end of the village. From there, it's a 2-minute walk along sandy paths to the guest house — someone will meet you there to carry bags and walk you in. You'll be at your door before you know it. Hibiscus tea will be waiting.

Common questions

About the journey.

How early should I book flights from Cairo?

Flights to Aswan run multiple times a day on EgyptAir and Air Cairo. Booking 2–3 weeks in advance gets you the best fares — usually $40–80 USD one way. Last-minute fares can spike to $150+. The flight is roughly 1 hour, very reliable.

Is the sleeper train safe?

Yes. The Watania Sleeper Train is the standard sleeper between Cairo and Aswan. Cabins are clean, doors lock, and dinner and breakfast are included. Solo women travelers report feeling safe. The journey is long (around 12 hours) but watching the Nile valley wake up is part of the appeal.

Can I arrive after midnight?

Yes. We have 24/7 reception on the island, and the boat captains can ferry you across at any hour. There's a small late-night surcharge (~50 EGP) for arrivals after 11 PM, mostly to cover the overtime for the driver and boat crew. Tell us your boat or flight arrival time and we'll be there.

Will my luggage fit in the motorboat?

Yes — even large suitcases are fine. The motorboat is built to handle 6–8 passengers plus luggage comfortably. Our crew will help you load and unload at both docks. If you're traveling with very heavy bags or special equipment (e.g., camera gear), tell us in advance so we can arrange extra hands.

Do I need a visa for Egypt?

Most nationalities can get an Egyptian visa on arrival ($25 USD, paid in cash) or apply online via the official e-Visa portal before arrival. UK, US, EU, Australian, and most Asian passport holders are all eligible. Always check the latest requirements for your nationality at visa2egypt.gov.eg.

What if my flight is delayed?

Just WhatsApp us. Our driver works flexibly and can wait, or come back later. We don't charge waiting fees for reasonable delays (under 2 hours). For very long delays, we'll re-coordinate the pickup time with you and keep things smooth.
